The Nightmare Manor
By Miracle Overloading
The following story is based on real life events. And by real life events, I mean it’s totally false. Also it should be noted that the spooky old house in the story, was not technically a manor O_o.
Judy Smith was relatively new at the real estate business. But she more than made up for her relative inexperience with her undying determination. When ever she got a new client, or clients, she would work tirelessly to get them the perfect house. Or at least until she got fired for taking too long, but that’s beside the point… She was currently working with her clients, Mr. and Mrs. Morgan, to help them find a house; coincidently enough, in late October (they really should’ve seen this coming). They were looking for a rather large house, as they had a large extended family all over the country, and could easily afford it as Mr. Morgan was a successful writer (though Judy thought his work was uninspired, and overall, rather sucky).
They were having some difficulty finding a house in their current price range, and were starting to grow somewhat impatient with their lack of progress. Just as the Morgans were starting to consider finding a different realtor to help them, Judy heard about one last option; an abandoned, but relatively intact old house just outside of the city, in a quaint patch of forest. They decided to give it a try. The next Monday, they all drove out there to see it. The residence had been the Becks’, before them the Stones’, then the Lees’; the list goes on. It seems that most of the owners hadn’t stayed very long for some reason…
Anyway, the house was very large and very pretty. The only real flaw from the outside is that all of the window shutters appeared to be nailed shut over the windows. The Morgans seemed rather impressed, and for now, Judy still had her job. They went inside. It was old and dusty inside; no one had lived there for almost 10 years. It was pretty dark, as the electricity bill wasn’t being paid for, as no one lived there. It almost looked like the setting for some cheesy horror flick. They proceeded to inspect the house top-to-bottom.
As they proceeded through the house, some mysteriously spooky things happened; they were unexplained noises: like someone else’s footsteps, distant echoes of what sounded like people talking, and laughing, and whispers, and whatnot. Very spooky stuff indeed. They soon decided to leave the house as it was starting to get dark, and the house started to get exponentially creepier as time went by. The all piled into the car and went back to the city.
Judy went home and went to bed, the image of that spooky looking house still fresh in her mind. She fell asleep rather quickly though. That night she had a strange dream; she dreamt she was in front of the spooky house she had shown that day. On a whim, she decided to go in. It was very dark, and the only light was coming in from the windows. Judy wandered aimlessly around the house for what seemed like hours, asking aloud if anyone was there. Eventually she heard an answer, a solid ‘Yes’. She rounded the next corner and ran into Mr. & Mrs. Morgan, who were also in their pajamas. She was very surprised by this. They began to talk and The Morgans explained how they had ended up in front of the house like she had. Judy was somewhat taken aback by this recent change of events, as her dreams were never this vivid or life-like. Mr. Morgan, being a bit of a smartass, suggested to Judy, that she show them the house again. So they decided to look around again, even though it was just a dream.
They looked around again, and as they did, they couldn’t help but notice just how much creepier the place was at night. They decided to try to leave, but when they got to the front door, they found it to be locked. Judy immediately became frightened as she knew the door hadn’t been locked when she entered. At that point, a rather loud giggle echoed through the house. They frantically began inspecting the windows and found them to be locked as well. They began searching for another way out. They ran throughout the house inspecting all of the windows and doors, all of them locked. As they wandered they began to notice a few things like various handprints and footprints in what appeared to be blood, and they could clearly hear someone else’s footsteps. They went upstairs. After wandering around for a while, they heard the footsteps getting louder. They rounded a corner, and then they saw a little girl. She was pale with bright blue eyes, long black hair, and wore a white nightgown. Mr. Morgan decided to approach her, to see if she knew anyway out. Judy and Mrs. Morgan thought it wasn’t a good idea. He turned around and asked them why, at which point he noticed a rather terrified look on their faces. He turned back around. The little girl was on eye level with him; she was floating in mid air, and wearing a very sinister looking smile on her face.
Before he could react, she lunged toward him, and began to violently strangle him, with seemingly inhuman strength. Mrs. Morgan ran forward to help him, but then a loud cracking sound was heard and his neck lolled limply to one side. The little girl then dropped his body and started towards the women. They decided to run. In their confusion and fear, Mrs. Morgan tripped on a lump on the hallway rug. Judy ran to help her up, but the little girl loomed around the corner, and dragged Mrs. Morgan back by her ankles. Judy, having seen the girl’s strength ran, knowing she was no match for her.
She ran down the stairs, and into the foyer. She lunged for the door, and frantically tried to open it. The little girl suddenly appeared out of the shadows and started towards Judy, her hands soaked in what was likely Mrs. Morgan’s blood. She grabbed Mrs. Morgan on the wrist, and with her other hand lurched toward her neck. Judy let out a blood-curdling scream.
Suddenly, Judy woke up. She jumped up in a panic, drenched in sweat and breathing hard. She wondered to herself, ‘had it all been a dream’. She rubbed her head to try to calm herself down, and then noticed a mark on her wrist. It was in the shape of a hand, and was in the same place where the little girl had grabbed her. Needless to say, she didn’t go back to sleep that night.
She waited until sunrise, and then began her morning routine, all the while telling herself, it was just a dream. She remembered she had to take the Morgans’ out again to look at some more houses, and began the long drive towards their house. When she pulled up, the place was surrounded by police tape, there were a couple of cop cars, and an ambulance, and all of the neighbors, most still in their pajamas, were all gathered around. Not wanting to jump to any conclusions, she asked a neighbor what had happened. They said they one of the neighbors had heard some loud screaming the night before, and had called the police. When the police arrived, they found the Morgans dead in their bed, their necks broken.
Judy vowed never to go asleep again, and was soon later admitted to a mental institution.
That house never did get sold…
